Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has ended his re-election campaign with a TV appearance accusing his opponents of trading in lies and insults.
Mr Ahmadinejad said they had conspired with Israelis to falsify documents and graphs to discredit him.
His rivals boycotted the chance to appear on TV, after apparently not being offered equal airtime.
Earlier a former president and leading cleric urged Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to rein in Mr Ahmadinejad.
Mr Ahmadinejad alleged in a TV debate last week that the cleric, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, and other politicians were corrupt.
Huge crowds have been out on the streets, as the rival candidates held their last election rallies.
Mr Ahmadinejad is thought to be in a tight race with his main rival, reformist Mir Hossein Mousavi. Two other candidates are standing.
'Bottom of history'
The BBC's Jon Leyne in Tehran says the crowds gathering in the capital in support of rival candidates sound more like boisterous football crowds than election campaigners.
Such insults and accusations against the government are a return to Hitler's methods, to repeat lies and accusations ... until everyone believes those lies

The campaign at first appeared to be relatively dull, our correspondent says, but there has been an amazing surge of enthusiasm since the first of several TV debates.
Speaking to thousands of supporters in Tehran in the last hours of campaigning, President Ahmadinejad accused rivals of lying about the state of the economy and using smear tactics against him.
"Such insults and accusations against the government are a return to Hitler's methods, to repeat lies and accusations ... until everyone believes those lies," he said, quoted by local media.
Iranians would "send them to the bottom of history", he added.
Mr Ahmadinejad drew thousands of people to his final rallies
Later the president appeared on state TV to respond to criticism by use of graphs of his handling of the economy by Mr Mousavi and another candidate, Mohsen Rezai.
He said they had used what he called "zionist entities", meaning Israeli companies, to falsify information and undermine his government.
Our correspondent says this is a charge that's bound to outrage his rivals, who have little chance to respond to these latest charges now that campaigning is ending.
However, their supporters are expected make their views known on the streets. Mr Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, another reformist candidate, were due to address crowds in central Tehran.
'Effective action'
Mr Rafsanjani remains powerful 12 years since he gave up the presidency
The last day of campaigning was also coloured by an intervention by Mr Rafsanjani, who was Mr Ahmadinejad's main opponent in the 2005 elections, and was himself president from 1989 to 1997 and currently heads the Expediency Council - Iran's main political arbitration body.
In an open letter to the supreme leader published by several newspapers, he said Mr Ahmadinejad's statements threatened to undermine the Islamic revolution.
He had personally told the president to take back his remarks, which he described as "irresponsible and untruthful", he said. He asked Ayatollah Khamenei to resolve the dispute.
"I ask your eminence, given your position, responsibility and personality, to solve this problem and act in a way you deem right to take effective action in eliminating the mutiny," the former president said, quoted by AFP news agency.
Fourteen high-ranking clerics echoed the complaint.

9.45am:
Mousavi has promised direct talks with the US if he is elected president, writes Matthew Weaver. But in an interview with Al Jazeera, he appear to rule out a halt to Iran's nuclear programme.
Link to this video 9.30am:
Ian Black reports on the "tremendous excitement on the streets" of Tehran.
9am:
Venezuela's socialist leader, Hugo Chavez, is backing Ahmadinejad, AP reports.
Chavez described him as "a courageous fighter for the Islamic Revolution" and praised his "defence of the Third World, and struggle against imperialism"
8.30am:
Our Tehran stringer, Saeed Kamali Dehghan, says Mousavi supporters are being urged to cast their votes in schools rather than mosques, over fears of vote rigging.
He writes:
Waiting in long queues in front of their mosques and schools to cast their ballots, millions of Iranians have come out to vote in the most tense election since 1979.
Mohammad Farahani, a 22 year-old university student, waited nearly half an hour in Alrasoul's mosque queue in Tehran since 9am to vote for his favoured candidate Mir Hussein Mousavi. "I haven't seen this huge amount of people voting in the first hours in comparison to the last presidential poll," he says, sporting a green wristband to show his support.
Meanwhile, Iran's ministry of communication has been cracking down on text messaging during the elections.
Mohsen Safayi, 32, explains that he's been trying to send a text message to his friend for the past 30 minutes. "SMS has played an important role this time in the election mostly among Mousavi and Karoubi's supporters who didn't have many choices for campaigning in the country," he says.
Texts and emails distributed rapidly in Iran have formed an alternative campaigning strategy in this election - mostly in favour of Mousavi.
Today's most important mesasage encourages Mousavi supporters to write their ballots in pen and with their full names - and not to cast them in mosques but in schools. Mousavi supporters believe that there is a risk of rigging in mosques where the monitors are mostly Basijis who control religious places.
Emails sent around today among friends in Iran ask Mousavi supporters not to hold any green banners, to reduce the possibility of being recognised and harassed. Emails also warn that there will be a false rumour spread by Ahmadinejad's supporters that Mousavi has withdrawn, which is completely untrue.
Ahmadreza Shirazi, a 55-year-old shopkeeper is going to cast his ballot for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. "I believe that many people in rural places and villages outside Tehran will vote for Ahmadinejad because he has cared about their problems and has helped them during the past four years", he explains.
8am:
Iran's election day finally arrived at 8am local time (4.30am in the UK), writes Ian Black. But Tehran, paradoxically, is far quieter than it has been for the last extraordinary week of mass rallies and impassable streets, not least because today is Friday, always a holiday. The key to the presidential vote is turnout: the higher it is the more likely a defeat for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the hardline incumbent.
Supporters of Mir Hossein Mousavi, his main rival, can hardly contain their excitement but worry about the result being rigged. There are two other candidates. Some 45,000 polling stations are operating across this country of 72 million people and 46 million voters.
The first big moment came just after 8am came when Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, cast his ballot - live on state TV IRB of course. Khamenei is every inch the senior cleric in his black turban and long robes. He spoke gravely of the significance of democracy for the Islamic Republic. He is far more powerful than any president. Still, the election of a more moderate figure than the controversial Ahmadinejad could still affect key policies at home and abroad.
"People should not pay attention to rumours," he warned, though without elaborating. Tensions have certainly been high over the final days of the campaign, though it was largely peaceful. "Voting is both a right and a duty." Voting will last for 10 hours but could be extended. Results are due late tomorrow.
IRB's running coverage is interspersed with patriotic songs and images of the Islamic revolution and the eight-year war with Iraq, a profoundly formative experience. Clips of Ayatollah Khomeini are played again and again. It quotes CNN's view that the election if "highly energised".
